Gov. Umahi Orders Closure Of Hospital Where COVID-19 Patient Died, Gives Reasons

Summary Of His Excellency, Governor David Nweze Umahi's Interactive Chat With the NCDC Response Team At The New Government House Abakaliki, Ebonyi State on Saturday.

1. His Excellency directed that the COVID-19 reports in Ebonyi State should henceforth be made on a daily basis and should not be aggregated again. "Separate reports, if it is ten in a day, report the breakdown before aggregating them."

2. The Governor noted that the false news emanating from some quarters, alleging that the COVID-19 death recorded in Ebonyi is from the Judiciary, he explained that nobody died in the Judiciary and such wrong information should be corrected.

3. He explained the plan of the state government to build two new testing centers at Onicha and Ishielu Council Areas which will now make all the 3 Senatorial Zones in the state have a center each, thereby, making testing of suspected cases easier and faster across the state.

4. Governor Umahi directed the immediate sealing off of the hospital where the COVID-19 death occurred. He directed for the immediate revoking of their Certificate of Occupancy and prosecution in accordance with Ebonyi State Corona Virus And Other Dangerous Infectious Diseases and Related
Matters Law 2020, to serve as a deterrent to other hospitals that may attempt managing COVID-19 patient without following NCDC protocols.
